Stay up-to-date and learn more about what our Art Ready students and mentors are up to!

Art Ready is a mentorship program designed to give high school students the opportunity to experience firsthand what it is like to be a professional working in a visual arts discipline. From October through December, participating students gain exposure to diverse art fields and meet a range of artists through studio visits, field trips to arts and cultural centers, art-making workshops, and a portfolio review. In the spring, students select artists to serve as their mentors, with whom they meet weekly from January to May on hands-on projects. Art Ready culminates in an exhibition of student work created during the program in Smack Mellon’s gallery space.

Students who complete Smack Mellon’s Art Ready program are well-informed, educated, and prepared to make decisions about their future in the arts.

Smack Mellon’s Education Programs are supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, New York City Council Member Lincoln Restler, and with support from Select Equity Group Foundation, Exploring The Arts, an Anonymous Donor, and Smack Mellon’s Members.
