Ramadhani’s work rifts between a biographical dreamscape and the experience of systemic oppression: two sublime variables in a complicated relationship. The dreamscape is often grounded in personal icons using natural and make-shift processes, while the model of institutional artifact preservation frames the latter. Her interventions with organic materials honor ancestral indigenous civilizations and their technological advancements. This relationship to material is a fundamental vocabulary rather than a romanticization of nature’s inherent beauty– as this beauty is not reflective of reality. It is a tool used to describe the blurred lines between freedom and ownership. Ramadhani (b.1998) is a Queens native and received her BFA from The Cooper Union in 2022.
