My expanded use of painting trails unexpected historical traces into a multidisciplinary practice. Spanning painting, immersive installation, experimental exhibition, film, and the translation of female artists’ writings into Korean, my practice unfurls the elusive subjectivity of art and artist of a new migrant generation in the postcolonial and cross-cultural context based on the interest in visual culture and race and ethnic studies. In particular, painting through other means such as appropriation, anachronism, and relationality, In-Between Series (2015~), Hinged Picture System (2020~), and the newly developing experimental exhibition Global Joy (2023~) survey various painterly experimentations seeking the validity of painting today, further attempting to expand psychological, social, and phenomenological interests relating to formal and visual perception.
