Stephanie Germosen

Artist Website

Stephanie Germosen creates work that she calls “skins of experience” (Piel de Experiencia), using extremely tactile materials to communicate the urgency of remembering in conditions of displacement. These objects are transformed into souvenirs of memories that recall the experiences of Germosen’s Latin American identity. By shifting the emphasis from the immaterial to the material, Germosen repurposes these objects of enigmatic origin, giving disembodied memories physical form while retaining their tangential connection to notions of home. Germosen has exhibited at Zakaib and Sullivan Galleries, both in Chicago, IL, and at Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning in Queens, NY. She received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2018.

Stephanie Germosen is one of Smack Mellon’s 2019-20 New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellows.
